Water Director of Hungary, Mr Péter Kovács and his Cypriot counterpart, Mrs Panayiota Hadjigeorgiou visited the Hungarian Water Partnership’s headquarters on September 15. The delegation held a meeting with HWP President Dr. Károly Kovács, General Secretary Bálint Horváth, CEO of the management company, Zoltán Horváth, as well as representatives of our member companies interested in business opportunities in Cyprus.
During the two-hour meeting, the guests were briefed about the activities of the HWP. Afterwards Mrs Hadjigeorgiou presented the current water issues and problems in Cyprus: need for more water-savvy irrigation technologies; reduction of water loss; water recycling solutions in the context of the transition to a circular economy; seawater infiltration into the aquifers due to the decrease in the water level; reduction of evaporation of water reservoirs; cleaning of water stored in reservoirs; excessive extraction of water; tertiary water treatment. In response to the listed problems, Károly Kovács explained in detail the professional solutions offered by HWP members. It was followed by the presentations of GeoGold Kft., DMRV Zrt. and Pureco Kft. which focused on the needs indicated by Mrs Hadjigeorgiou. Since Puraset Kft. and Water&Soil Kft. could not be present, at their request, the management of HWP presented their portfolio. The Cypriot delegation noted with interest the presentations and a lively discussion developed regarding the products and solutions offered. Ms. Georgiou also welcomed the HWP's initiative for bilateral professional cooperation.
