Károly Kovács, president of HWP, and Miklós Matolcsy, managing director of PontVelem Nonprofit Kft., signed a cooperation agreement on June 16, 2022.

PontVelem Nonprofit Kft. has been organizing the Carpathian Basin Sustainability Theme Week for years, every year in the week associated with Earth Day (April 22). The key supporter and professional partner of Theme Week is the Kék Bolygó Climate Protection Foundation of former head of state János Áder. Theme Week focuses on a different theme every year, and in 2022, one of the 3 priority issues was water.

This year, within the framework of Theme Week, the President Károly Kovács performed as a volunteer in three primary schools in Buda and the General Secretary Bálint Horváth presented in the Open World Development School in Budapest, as well as in a primary school in Budaörs. During the presentations - based on real-life examples - the presentors tried to show the children the value of water, the tasks related to the water profession in the field of water purification and wastewater treatment, as well as to give further guidelines regarding the conscious use of water. The program also provided the opportunity to schoolchildren visit external locations. Puraset Kft. hosted a school group at its site in Jászfényszaru, where the students could gain an insight into the everyday work of water purification.

The Sustainability Theme Week contributes to the general presentation of Hungarian water industry capabilities, therefore the two organizations plan long-term cooperation in the following areas based on the agreement:

* Providing a water value education platform for primary school students through the website www.vizertek.hu, and by involving the human and professional resources of the HWP and MaSzeSz member companies, according to the possibilities, in topics covering the entire spectrum of water management: drinking water purification, waste water treatment, rainwater treatment, water recycling.

* Joint development of a school tap water consumption promotion program (e.g. with a focus on preventing the generation of PET waste).

* Organizing the reception of student groups at prominent water-related locations (such as water reservoirs, water treatment plants, sewage plants) and organizing on-site presentations for them.

*The Hungarian adaptation and inclusion in the program of a board game developed by Pureco Kft., a HWP member company, for African elementary school students, on the topic of conscious water use and water value formation.
